What the work is
Luke Wroblewski is a digital product designer and leader, and the author of Mobile First, Web Form Design and Site-Seeing. His career connects work on software products with writing and teaching about their design.
How it was made
His experience includes interface design at NCSA and eBay, design leadership at Yahoo, and co-founding Bagcheck and Polar. Twitter acquired Bagcheck in 2011; Google’s 2014 acquisition of Polar brought him into that company.
What works
The combination provides a useful frame for studying interfaces as parts of products. A form, a screen and an overall product strategy operate at different scales but affect the same person’s experience.
What does not
A career biography is not evidence that every recommendation transfers to every situation. Advice about mobile layouts or forms should be read with attention to the task, users and technical conditions being discussed.
What it influenced
Wroblewski extended his professional work through three design books, articles, conference talks and graduate teaching. He also helped establish the Interaction Design Association, linking individual practice with a wider professional community.
Is it worth your time
Worth studying for practical interface work. Start with a specific problem in a form or mobile experience, then compare the reasoning in his writing with evidence from your own users and product.
