What the work is
CD Bund is the corporate identity of the Swiss federal administration. The government reported that its introduction across the administration in January 2007 replaced more than eighty separate identities. It is not a single brand for all Swiss culture or commerce.
How it was made
The signature brings together the national arms and the confederation’s name in four languages. The system gives different administrative units a common framework for identifying their communications.
What works
Recognition can reduce the effort of determining who is speaking. Repeating one signature across departments makes their institutional relationship visible without asking the reader to learn a separate brand for every office.
What does not
A uniform appearance does not by itself make an official document understandable. The wording, information hierarchy and route to completing a task remain separate responsibilities.
What it influenced
The programme’s documented change was organizational: numerous identities were consolidated into one administrative system. That is a more concrete achievement than claiming it redesigned the identity of an entire nation.
Is it worth your time
Worth studying for the boundary between national symbols and institutional use. Compare documents from different departments and ask what the common signature clarifies, while checking whether the content is equally accessible.
